Mayodia

The land of 'Maya', as it is to the locals here, 'Mayodia', in Arunachal Pradesh; is truly the abode of the Gods. The clouded forests perfectly camouflages a serene dwelling. The mystery of this far off land is so enticing that we had to visit. uncovernortheast!!!

An early start from 'Tinsukia',Assam is the ideal as it is about 6 hrs drive to get there. Traversing through the forests of Assam, crossing the longest bridge in India, the 'Bhupen Hazarika Setu';we reached the district headquarter 'Roing', in Arunachal Pradesh.(Mind you, Inner Line Permits are required to get into Arunachal Pradesh which can be applied for earlier via online or can be obtained from the border check post). We had our fill in 'Roing' and bought supplies for the onward  journey. The hills were calling again; this time offering us with orchards full of oranges. The smell was irresistible.

The 'Border Roads Organization' has done a commendable job in building and maintaining roads to such remote places. As we wound up the miles, creeping through the mountains; we started feeling the cold refreshing air. With no one to be seen for distances , we felt good greeted once in while by the wandering Yaks.

As we started approaching the snow clad mountains, we knew our destination was nearby. We finally made it to the the infamous haunted 'Coffee House' of Mayodia. It was quite a scenery. Mr. Sherpa, the manager, showed us to our rooms. The feeling was divided, into elation on reaching such a beautiful place and consternation from the ghost stories.

We rested for a while and headed towards the 'Mayodia' pass. The weather was giving its way as we climbed up the altitudes.  A

different sight altogether waited us as we reached the top. A blanket of snow covered the entire area. Mountains of white surrounded us as far as we could see. We wondered,"now this is where God will like to stay". We jumped off the car and engaged in snow fighting.

There were a couple of shacks around the pass but only one was open. We had hot 'Maggi' and 'Chai. It felt like the divine's grace in such weather. As daylight was ending , we came back to the 'Coffee House'. A bonfire was lit and we had a great time with Mr. Sherpa and his gang. We literally danced away our worries of the work world.
